Minecraft
The Minecraft eggs come with your panel: Paper, Vanilla, Forge, Sponge and BungeeCord. Here are the settings that make the difference.
Which egg should you choose?
| Egg | For |
|---|---|
| Paper | The default choice: fast, and compatible with Bukkit/Spigot plugins. |
| Vanilla Minecraft | Mojang's official server, without plugins. |
| Forge Minecraft | Forge mods and modpacks. |
| Bungeecord | A proxy that links several servers together (a server network). |
You can import other eggs (Fabric, Velocity, Purpur…) in the administration: Nests → Import Egg, with a JSON file from the community repository pelican-eggs/eggs.
The right Java version
Each Minecraft version requires a minimum Java version. If it does not match, the server stops immediately with a message such as requires running the server with Java 25 or above.
| Minecraft version | Docker image to choose |
|---|---|
| 26.1 and later | Java 25 |
| 1.20.5 to 1.21.x | Java 21 |
| 1.17 to 1.20.4 | Java 17 |
| 1.16 and earlier | Java 8 or Java 11 |
To change it: the server's Startup tab, Docker Image menu, then restart.
Accepting the EULA
On first start, Minecraft asks you to accept Mojang's licence agreement. The panel shows an Accept Minecraft® EULA window: accept it and the server restarts. You can also change eula=false to eula=true in the eula.txt file.
How much memory?
- 2 GB: a small server among friends (up to about 10 players), without mods.
- 3 to 4 GB: a Paper server with plugins, or a light modpack.
- 6 GB or more: heavy modpacks (ATM, RLCraft…).
The server automatically uses the memory you assign to it: there is no need to change the startup command.
Changing version
Startup tab: change the version variable (Minecraft Version for Paper, latest for the most recent one), then Settings → Reinstall Server to download the new version. Your worlds and plugins are kept, but make a backup first: a world opened in a newer version cannot go back.
